NSW Demons brunch

90 people joined us in Sydney to hear from Melbourne Football Club CEO Peter Jackson who had a refreshingly direct message – lots of work to do but good signs for the future. Todd Viney and Josh Mahoney spoke of recruiting, player development and the evolution of the footy department. Russell Robertson was the perfect host, interviewer and auctioneer!

Sophie Galer entertained us with a lesson in Cheer Squad Action 101! Newly trained brunch participant were then recruited to the Demon Army and paddies, floggers and big heads got a great work out at the match that afternoon.

Double the demons, double the football dosage, double the excitement

Calling all NSW Demon fanatics, young and old.
While watching my Dees over the past month I have not been able to shake the feeling that the boys are finally back, and back with a vengeance. A new fresh coach, new insights and a new looking club. Fitzpatrick’s surge has been well received, Viney’s recovery and subsequent return; a blessing from the football gods and Watt’s restored confidence; a sign of the future to come. And above all this, our hearts beat red and blue.

So what can we do for the boys lucky enough to don the classic red and blue jumper? One weekend, two big events that cannot be missed. Double the demons, double the football dosage, double the excitement.

Friday 2 pm- Open training session at the Sydney Showground (Skoda) – Meet and greet the players, revel in their athleticism, discover the ins and outs of training at the Melbourne Demons. The open training session is particularly good for kiddies and future footy stars of the game. Autographs and snaps will be available and there is nothing better for kids than being able to chat to their footy idols and see them in action. So duck away from the office, sneak your kids out of school for the afternoon and head down to Skoda Stadium at 2 pm Friday.

Saturday 10:30 am- NSW Demons Brunch at the Novotel, Olympic Boulevard, Sydney Olympic Park
As NSW demons supporters we are given the rare opportunity of being able to meet and greet and discuss the future of the footy club with the clubs experts. Recently appointed MFC CEO Peter Jackson will offer insights and forecasts never uncovered before. Issues such as the new coach and coaching staff will be addressed, in addition to questions put forward by us, the NSW Demons! And it doesn’t stop there.
Robbo, my childhood footy idol and one of my personal role models joins us, alongside Josh Mahoney, the acting General Manager of football operations.
So for $60 a head, $ 30 for children (below 12) the NSW Demons get to talk footy, with the footy experts themselves.
Book now: http://www.trybooking.com/CZDH

Bookings close on Thursday 1 August.

Double the demons, double the football dosage, double the excitement- and not to forget the game itself.
The Dees vs. the Giants.
Carn the demons!

This week
New coach Neil Craig stamps his imprint on the team (with a pinch of Norm Smith). What is No 4 to make of this new Barassi like challenge? We will watch with great interest.

Shannon Byrnes, Jake Spencer, Daniel Nicholson have been recalled and Mitch Clisby makes his AFL debut this Saturday against St Kilda at the MCG. Out of the team are Mark Jamar, Jordie McKenzie, Michael Evans who are injured and Luke Tapscott who has been omitted.

Great to see Mitch Clisby get a game. I saw the Casey game against Port Melbourne earlier this year and Clisby showed plenty of dash off the half back flank.

Jackson signs on

Excellent news this week with Peter Jackson agreeing to stay with the Dees until at least the end of 2014 and committing to oversight the implementation of the changes that he will be recommending to the Board.

Last week

We saw an excellent performance from our sponsored player Chris Dawes who took 12 marks, had 21 disposals and kicked a goal in only his fourth game for the club – and 75th overall. Early on in the first quarter I had been wondering who that No 6 was gathering marks and kicks on the half back flank when I realized that it was a really slimmed down and very fit looking Chris Dawes. A great example is being set by our lad!

This week

Colin Sylvia and defender Tom McDonald return for the match against Collingwood at the MCG. James Sellar, Sam Blease and Max Gawn are also in their squad named on an extended bench, along with Jordie McKenzie, Dean Kent, Luke Tapscott and Rohan Bail.

The team

B: Lynden Dunn, Cameron Pedersen, Dean Terlich
HB: Colin Garland, Tom McDonald, Joel Macdonald
C: Jack Trengove, Colin Sylvia, Michael Evans
HF: Jeremy Howe, Jack Fitzpatrick, Jack Watts
F: David Rodan, Chris Dawes, Aaron Davey
FOLL: Mark Jamar, Matt Jones, Nathan Jones
I/C (from): Jordie McKenzie, Sam Blease, James Sellar, Dean Kent, Luke Tapscott, Max Gawn, Rohan Bail
IN: Colin Sylvia, James Sellar, Sam Blease, Max Gawn, Tom McDonald
OUT: James Frawley (hamstring), James Strauss

Enjoy the weekend and Go Dees!
