Oh, Henny Penny, the sky is falling and I am going to the lion to tell him about it!

Chicken Little likes to walk in the woods. She looks at the trees. She likes to smell the flowers. She likes to listen to the birds singing. One day while she was walking an acorn falls from a tree, and hits the top of her little head. “My, oh, my, the sky is falling. I must tell the lion about it” – says Chicken Little and begins to run. She runs and runs. By and by she meets the hen. ” Where are you going?” asks the hen. “Oh, Henny Penny, the sky is falling and I am going to the lion to tell him about it”. “How do you know it?” asks Henny Penny. “It head me on the head, so it must be so” says Chicken Little. ” Let me go with you!” says Henny Penny…….run run…… I am convinced after reading many comments online by Dees fans after last week’s game that we have Chicken Little and Henny Penny supporting our club. I am all for the internet and people’s ability to make comments and others to respond/share them (after all without it I wouldn’t be able to keep abreast of Damian Barrett making a fool of himself) but I really was annoyed by how many supporters claimed the ‘sky is falling’ after a bad loss on Sunday. Get over it! We are a young developing team who played a team that is potentially top 4 and whom we haven’t beaten since Percy Beames played for the club. The game itself certainly won’t be featuring in too many highlight reels but for a horrible 10 minute patch we were in the game most of the day. In fact the Dees of old probably would have lost by 100 points…….in fact the Dees of last year lost by 120 points so whilst I am certainly not jumping for joy a 41 point loss could have been much much worse. What in fact has me jumping even less for joy is the incessant comments from ‘commentators’ that say “how ‘lucky’ the Dees have been this year as our opponents could have put us away in many games if it wasn’t for costly errors etc……” – give me a break!…..You only play as well as your opponents let you and the Demons defensive pressure this year has caused these errors – I think I am going to watch future Melbourne games on mute! But back to the game on the weekend and it is fair to say, that Bernie Vince aside, many of our players would have been disappointed in their performances. Bernie must have played with the Ebola Virus with 3 goals and 25 touches to half time and with 41 for the game he easily had the best game of his career. He has to be one of the recruits of the season and for that Kurt Tippett I salute you. This week we face the Doggies in a game that is a perfect opportunity to bounce back. Losing Cross with a busted leg is a huge loss (how he played out the game is amazing!) but for all you Chicken Little and Henny Penny supporters out there keep the faith as the Demons are on the right track.
