What did our recruiting team like about Matthew?  Read some of his reviews here

Jefferson’s contested marking is outstanding, with his speed off the mark and mobility also impressive for a 195cm prospect. He needs few looks to have an impact. – rookieme

SNAPSHOT: “A tall prospect with enormous upside, Jefferson’s range and mobility make him an aerial threat who needs few opportunities to impact each game.”
With his set position in attack, Jefferson looks towards the likes of the King twins and Essendon’s Harrison Jones for inspiration on his craft. His feats this year, including a breakout seven-goal game against Western Australia, were ultra impressive and he even battled through injury to see off his top-age campaign on a positive note. Rookieme.com

STRENGTHS – AERIAL ABILITY, MOBILITY, SCOREBOARD IMPACT, UPSIDE, VERSATILITY, OVERHEAD MARKING
IMPROVEMENTS – SET SHOT GOALKICKING, STRENGTH

“Jefferson is another aerially dominant tall forward, more so through his greater athleticism and mobility, rather than pure power. His ability to leap straight up and clunk marks is terrific, but Jefferson also has the capacity to lead shrewdly on the back of that dexterity.
With great range, reach, and clean hands defiant of his skinny frame, Jefferson’s overhead marking is clearly his one-wood. While he hasn’t quite shown it as a top-ager, Jefferson is also versatile enough to roam on a wing or be thrown down back, which adds strings to his bow. He tends to produce scores from his limited number of possessions, making his impact high when on song in front of goal.” – Rookieme.com

Olivia Purcell – AFLW

NSW Demons are once again sponsoring Olivia Purcell in 2023.  Liv is a member of our brilliant Premiership team and set for another big year in 2023.

Join us in sponsoring Liv in 2023.

Sponsoring Olivia Purcell in 2022 – Season 7

It’s time to get on the W train and support our team in AFLW season 7.

Olivia Purcell joined the Demons in 2021 and is starring in the midfield in 2022. Liv was amongst our best in the win over our arch nemesis Adelaide last week with the Dees focusing on contested possession and executing their roles under pressure. Olivia had 24 disposals displaying her innate competitiveness. Coach Mick Stinear commented after the game “She’s really strong, clean and a good competitor.”

Liv debuted for the Dees in AFLW Season 6 and played in the last 6 games including the Grand Final. Liv brought her competitiveness and work around the contest to our mid field strength.

You are invited to join us in sponsoring Liv again this year when we hope to go one better than our 2nd place finish in Season 6.

Player sponsor events in Season 6 2022

We have enjoyed some great events with the players throughout the season and Alex Southey reports on the Dees AFLW Grand Final event.

The function was a relaxed and unstructured event to celebrate the Grand Final, and the season that was 2022 – the most successful season yet for our AFLW team, despite yesterday’s disappointment. Kate Roffey and Gary Pert were in attendance, but formalities were no doubt being saved for tomorrow night’s B&F.

I caught up with NSW Demons sponsored player Olivia Purcell, who is appreciative of our support. Olivia still lives in the Geelong area, having transferred from the Cats as a key recruit for the Dees this season. Otherwise, she works as a Personal Trainer, where she has been supported by her employer to meet her AFLW commitments. Olivia hasn’t had the chance to meet too many NSW Demons, so let’s hope that interactions with players and coaches can become regular events again, all over the country. (Remember what Club/Supporter Functions used to be like???)

The team flew back from Adelaide yesterday and commenced unwinding last night. Nobody looked the worse for wear today though. Everyone was disappointed by the result yesterday, but are keen to move on and get better next season. The group are really close and hopefully we retain most of our still young and developing list. No word on Daisy’s future plans at this stage. The Crows were a very good side this year, and although nobody wanted to take anything away from them, I’m sure all supporters are hoping that next year’s expansion brings one positive – namely, Port Adelaide, and a long overdue “raid” on Adelaide’s list, as has happened to all other teams with previous expansions.
The players seem to think that next season will start around August, as per the current speculation in the media. This would mean a fast turnaround, with the players only getting a few weeks off before “pre-season” starts. Trade and draft periods would have to fit in somewhere too.
Hoping to go one better in 2022/23.

Go Dees – Alex

Olivia Purcell

Purcell arrives at the Demons with 19 games to her name and has made a big impact in her first three seasons at the top level. A keen surfer, Purcell made her debut in the opening round of the 2019 AFLW season, going on to finish second in Geelong’s Best and Fairest. In 2020 Olivia was named Best and Fairest at Geelong, achieved All-Australian selection and was recognised as one of the competition’s most exciting players.
