Looking at this week and again we travel…..this time to Freo.  We all know our interstate record is about as good as bringing steak to a Vegan party BUT we did beat them by 10 goals last year over there so heh!…..recent form is good form so that’s what I am going with.   Yes it will be a tough one, especially as the Dockers will be seething after losing to the Tiges last week and they will have a few keys players back this week.
The matchup between the 2 AA contenders Sandilands and Jamar will be enthralling and if the Jamar/Moloney psychic friends connection is wired correctly we just might sneak a win.

Round 15 – Part 2 – All’s good in the world again!

All’s good in the world again! The Demons have had a great win and to top it off we wiped the floor of one of our traditional rivals. What better way to spoil the Bombers 2000 reunion shindig by pulling their pants down! And what a performance it was…… Let’s look at the highlights:

Ø At last we managed to get a way to a good start (in fact we kicked our highest score for the first half this year)

Ø The old heads pulled their weight with Green and Bruce both dominating (Green incidentally must be a smokey for All Australian (AA) honours if he keeps up this rich vein of form)

Ø Trengove again showed his class, Dunn did more than an admirable job on their skipper and Jones toweled up Stanton

Ø Sylvia showed us just how valuable he is to our team by breaking lines with his strong body and sublime kicking skills and Bennell played probably his best game for the Dees

Ø Jordie McKenzie (or J.Mc2.0) is a ripper…….he must be a certainty to make our senior list next year. His shepherd to allow Bruce to kick his first goal showed the endeavour and commitment that is so essential to success

Ø Jamar again showed why he is in AA form and perhaps surprisingly had a world record 7 kicks for the game (his most ever)…..an historic day for the big Russian on all fronts

Ø LJ got through the game unscathed and showed glimpses of why his is and will continue to be a crowd puller whenever he plays, and

Ø The comeback when Essendon put the pressure on in the 3rd quarter shows we have the ability to dig deep when it counts and won’t be brushed aside by other teams as easily anymore

I could go on and on as across the board there were strong contributions and undoubtedly some pleasing headaches at the selection table this week.

Round 15 – Jimma and Essendon

Turning our attention to this weeks’ game against the Bombers, a team that has had the wood on us over the past few years (but then again hasn’t every team?) we should look to the game with optimism. If there was ever a time Essendon are ripe for the taking it is now and a fast start and similar commitment shown for 3 quarters last week for the whole game should see us come home with the 4 points. Add this to the emotive interview with Big Jimma on the footy show last night (if that doesn’t inspire the boys then I don’t know what will) and I can see us chalking up a win.

There are some key changes this week with Grimes unfortunately missing with his hamstring and Spencer out with a back injury. But the big news is the return of the excitement machine LJ! LJ certainly provides that ‘X’ factor and to see him line up with Watts in the forward line will be worth the admission alone.

Round 14

This week we turn to the game this Sunday, this time against a team that systematically tore apart the raging flag favourites last Friday night. Any sane person would predict this game to be a whitewash but sanity doesn’t always prevail in demonland. Our performances against the top 4 sides this year have been more than admirable and with some luck (and FAST STARTS) we would have won more than we have lost against them. So which Melbourne side will turn up????……who knows but let’s hope that we go in hard, show commitment and get a FAST START!!.
Coming into the team this week are Jamie Bennell and Kyle Cheney who are both named in the starting 18 and Jake Spencer and Addam Maric who are named on the interchange bench. Joel Macdonald, Tom Scully, Jordie McKenzie, Brad Miller and Matthew Warnock complete the extended interchange bench. Great to see Cheney get a chance to play his first game for 2010 after he played 12 matches in 2009. Cheney has been consistently named in the best for Casey Scorpions in the VFL competition. And also great to see Jared Rivers playing his 100th AFL match. After a bright start to his career including the Rising Star in 2004, Rivers has had to overcome a debilitating injury to again become an integral part of our defense and a member of the leadership group!

Last week
You know it is funny sometimes that no matter how many things change some things seem to stay the same. Slow starts to game…..tick! Smashed at AAMI stadium…..tick! Last weeks’ game was so disappointing on both these fronts……probably up there with the Eagles game as the most disappointing game this year. So what can we say about last weeks’ game??? Surely nobody was surprised that after the Jamar/Moloney Psychic Friends Connection had been talked up so much over the last fortnight that Adelaide would subject Beamer to a smothering tag and we were much worse for it. Surely opposition coaches were sitting on their couch going “ahh, there’s an idea”, and his future is to be tagged relentlessly for the rest of the season! And for the rest of the game HOW MANY PLAYERS FELL OVER!!……I know they like to protect their feet but why on earth they weren’t wearing stops after it had been raining for days in Adelaide is beyond me.

Now for 5 positives from the game:
1. Bate and Dunn both can hold their collective heads high for solid performances up front
2. Grimes, Scully and Trengove showed great commitment and courage and set the standard for the rest of the team
3. Frawley again played a great game and was one of very few players that beat his opponent on the day
4. Watts continues to show improvement each and every week
5. We now only have to play 1 more game at AAMI stadium this year.
