Round 9
Five changes this week with Bate and Bruce out injured, Warnock rested and Johnson and Hughes omitted. Morton is in for his first game of the year after injury and Miller returns after seven weeks of penance at Casey. Wonaeamirri is promoted for this game in his hometown and his first game since 2008. Joel Macdonald and Jake Spencer have been promoted after good form with Casey. I think Jetta is a good chance to play possibly as a late change for Spencer.

Last Week.
Disappointing result on Saturday v West Coast with the burden of favouritism overwhelming the Dees yet again. The Dees tackling was well down on previous games while the Weagles tackled fiercely, shut our midfield down and limited our scoring options by denying the Dees the central corridor! Good to see young Watts return with confidence and gain 15 possessions and 5 marks 2 of which were contested. McDonald continued his good form and worked hard all game. Junior displaying those characteristics that Bailey emphasised yet again after the game ..”the importance of being able to play well every quarter, every game, against every opposition.” Expect to see a few changes this week especially with Bate and Bruce likely to be out injured. Look to see Morton and Miller return after playing the last weeks at Casey. I think we might also see Wonaeamirri promoted for this game in his hometown and Jetta rewarded for his consistently good performances over the last few weeks at Casey. Gysberts must be a chance as well. Update on Thursday!
Round 8

Last week
Yet again Jimmy did us proud and didn’t the Pink Lady look fantastic last Friday night? When the game started a fascinating struggle ensued in the wet weather between the emerging Demons and the favored Bulldogs. At the end it was Footscray by 4 points but the Dees would have won over many supporters in our only Friday night game for the year.
This week
Jack Watts is in this week in the only change to a team that is putting in a highly competitive effort every week. Tom Scully starts on the ground for the first time after his 39 possession game last week. It was great to read during the week that Tom is looking forward to playing alongside Jack Trengove at the MFC for the next 10 years. The future is indeed looking good!
On Saturday against the West Coast the Dees carry the unfamiliar burden of favouritism. Will we win? I’m not sure but I am tipping the Dees. Join us at the Camelia Grove Hotel at 2.00pm this Saturday to watch the game.

Round 7
This week
Join us at the Camelia Grove Hotel at 7.30pm this Friday night to watch on the Big Screen Melbourne take on Footscray in our first and only Friday night game for the year. It will be also an opportunity to see the Field of Women made up of 14,000 people, the majority women, stand on the MCG turf to form an enormous pink lady – the motif of Breast Cancer Network Australia – to raise awareness and funds. The game will then be telecast live on Foxtel.
Three changes to the team this week with Danny Hughes, Jordie McKenzie and Paul Johnson coming into the side to play the Bulldogs. Ricky Petterd is injured and probably out for the year and Joel Macdonald and Stef Martin have been omitted. Jordie McKenzie will add to that zip and ferocious tackling in the midfield after a week’s rest and Johnson will have another opportunity to demonstrate his talents in the ruck and around the ground.
Hughes is coming off the rookie list for Petterd and is a like for like replacement. Hughes is almost the same height and build and a good overhead marking forward! He is making his debut after five years on and off the MFC playing list. You have to wish him well and hope that both his and the MFC’s persistence are well rewarded.

Round 6
Last week
How sweet it is! Fantastic game, best footy played in years, best game ever and wonderful brand of football described the brilliant win over Brisbane! Where to start – Trengove’s skillful game rewarded with the Rising Star nomination for Round 5, Scully always at or near the ball, McKenzie, McDonald, and Moloney tackling their way to all be in the top 10 this season. A delight to watch, in fact the whole team is a delight to watch.
This week
Melbourne plays North at Docklands in the first game away from the MCG this year. Deservedly the same team that defeated Brisbane has been retained with Rivers, Bail and Spencer named as emergencies. However with Rivers, Strauss, Cheney, Miller and Newton all playing well at Casey and Bail available again after injury there was pressure on for a place in the 22. The depth that is so important to being a successful footy team is also there now with Morton, Watts, Wonaeamirri, Jurrah and Bell still to come back into the team. No doubt a rotation policy will also see other youngsters including McNamara, Jetta, Gysberts and Blease getting a run sometime soon!
