Round 6

Last week

How sweet it is!  Fantastic game, best footy played in years, best game ever and wonderful brand of football described the brilliant win over Brisbane!  Where to start – Trengove’s skillful game rewarded with the Rising Star nomination for Round 5, Scully always at or near the ball, McKenzie, McDonald, and Moloney tackling their way to all be in the top 10 this season.  A delight to watch, in fact the whole team is a delight to watch.

This week

Melbourne plays North at Docklands in the first game away from the MCG this year.  Deservedly the same team that defeated Brisbane has been retained with Rivers, Bail and Spencer named as emergencies.   However with Rivers, Strauss, Cheney, Miller and Newton all playing well at Casey and Bail available again after injury there was pressure on for a place in the 22.  The depth that is so important to being a successful footy team is also there now with Morton, Watts, Wonaeamirri, Jurrah and Bell still to come back into the team.  No doubt a rotation policy will also see other youngsters including McNamara, Jetta, Gysberts and Blease getting a run sometime soon!

Round 5

Last week

A struggle up to half time but an impressive 3rd quarter saw the Dees kick away to an eventual 55 point win over Richmond – a nice little percentage boost.  It has been worth the wait to see Jamar, Sylvia and Moloney coming into their prime and with James McDonald (Junior) leading the way.  The improvement in skills was demonstrated in particular by Bennell, Bruce and Bail all kicking and handballing with over 90% effectiveness.  Did I mention Scully and Trengove – nope not yet – more to come!

This week

No changes to the team this week with Melbourne taking on the Brisbane Lions at the MCG. Stefan Martin, Jordan Gysberts, Kyle Cheney are named as emergencies so we could see another debutant if young Gysberts gets a late call up this week.

As we all know it can be difficult to get the footy scores in Sydney but we have been saved by the free iphone app “Footy Live”.  Try it this Saturday night if you are out and about or otherwise join the NSW Dees at the Cammy!

Last week

It might have taken until the last few minutes to secure victory but a win is a win is a win!  And didn’t the boys delight in singing the team song!  A very even performance by the team highlighted by superb performances from our own two sponsored players Jamie Bennell and Jack Grimes.  If you haven’t joined up to the NSW Demons sponsorship now’s the time to invest in the future of the MFC and Jamie and Jack – details here.

This week

Melbourne takes on Richmond this weekend and it looks like Sylvia will play and Newton might be the unlucky player to miss out.  The big danger this week is heaven forbid! – overconfidence with Richmond truly having a shocking start to the season on and off the field.

While I still haven’t seen the game against Collingwood I am reliably informed that “we woz robbed”, that it was our best game for years and “seniors stood up and kids had a dip”!
